Words from Sister Angela Smith in Illinois Chicago Mission

"There is some pretty cool news that the mission just told about this morning.  Our mission has just been selected Facebook! We are the 9th mission in the world to do this!  Only the leadership knows about it right now, but they will know about it Wed.  It's really exciting that I get to be a part of this new wave of missionary work:)  I think it's God's way of making me more technologically savvy.

This Facebook program is going pretty well.  It makes getting contact with some people a lot easier and we get news about what's going on in their lives.  (It helps us know what they need sometimes, but sometimes it is just blah, blah, blah).  It's all good though.  It's so great how big a presence the Church is getting on line.  It's another testimony builder, really.  We move with the times, but we stay true to eternal principles that never change.

Facebook is definitely weird.  It's been so long, and my purpose on it is completely different, but it is really useful.  The first day we set it up we had two online lessons and set up an event for our baptism to invite everyone too.  Turns out we had the first online lesson in the mission, which is kinda cool.  We were given a packet of basic guidelines that we reviewed, but it's still so new that we are refining the rules and stuff.  I hope that people take this seriously and don't waste time.  Half of our mission is really young (been out less than 3 months),but a lot of them are really solid.  It will be good. "
