Words from Elder Kade Garner in Peru

"Hola familia,

Bueno, ¿qué les puedo decir esta semana? Okey, pues sólo me faltan 29 días.

This week we did a lot of contacting again. We found some really great people and we saw some miracles. The people here basically have all talked to the missionaries at some point. It is such a small little town. So we just look for people and hope that they did not have a bad experience with the Elders in the past.

This week we found a family where half the members of the family are less active. The other half are not baptized. One of the sons is 19 and we found out that when he was 12 he had accepted a baptismal date but the missionaries were taken out of the area and he lost all contact with them. We invited him to be baptized the 27th of December. That is the last day that I will ever be able to baptize as a missionary... we hope all goes well.

I got a little discouraged on Saturday. We had district conference this week (it is not a stake here) and none of our investigators could go. Then next week we have voting. If you remember when I was in Lima there were elections and we could not go to church that week. Well, not it is their turn up here and this week their will be no church meetings. That means all our chances to baptize someone we find have been thrown out of the window. So, we are going to do all we can to baptize someone who has gone to church before. I am sad about the situation a little but hey there has to be someone here to baptize right. It did help me though decide that I am ready to be coming home. Maybe coming here with only six weeks left in the mission was a blessing in a very disguised way.

This week we had a training for all the news and their trainers. The president talked to us a lot about the potential of the news. He said that he has waited for a Michael Jordan or a Messi to come to his mission, but that no one has stepped up yet... ouch! He said that our news could be that star player that he is looking for so we have to make sure they are better than us. I am doing all I can to help my companion I just hope that when I leave he feels like I was a help to him and not a waste of time. I was not a star player in the mission but maybe my companion can be. Way to get a missionary motivated don´t you think... again, the Lord is just helping me prepare to go home. I am really grateful for that.

So, that was the week. Oh we did not do anything for Thanksgiving but I did have a work visit with my best friend Elder Dunn from Texas and we found a grave in my area that had been broken into and the casket opened... it was a casket from way back in the day. It was not a traditional Thanksgiving but it was super fun."
