Words from Elder Chandon Herring in Washington DC

"Hello family!
Well a quick update on my child. He is awesome and he is also going to
be a big brother!!!! We are getting a visa waiter on Tuesday night. It
is going to be fun being in a trio but I am a little nervous. I bet it
will all work out. Also Elder Levi decided to "slightly damage" our
car... I will send a picture of the current state of the newest car in
the mission. grrr... Other than that we had an amazing week. Our
District over all did an amazing job as well. We met or exceeded all
of our goals except one! And I set high goals this last week too!  Also
the Patriots won so I am very happy!

Tuesday... You know it is a successful day when you are in a meeting
from 9:30-5:00... Then you have a delicious dinner and a lesson with
an investigator. At the meeting I was able to have a few minutes to talk to
Pres. and Sis. Cooke. They are absolutely amazing! We talked a lot
about training and then when it was just good ol Peter Stryker and I
we talked about the future and how fast time is going. (No idea who Peter Stryker is...haha)  I am the last
group of missionaries he will send home! He is hoping that by this
time next year he will have a home here so that when his time is done
he can be a permanent resident. We had dinner with a man named Jordan
Lawrence. He is the bomb! I really think that he should date and marry
either Anna or Kort. He is a little older for YSA at 31 but he is so
cool! He is just the bomb you have to meet him. And he is in the AF so
ya. We then met with Million. He understands what we teach but he
cannot express himself as we do so....  The language barrier is too much.
We are going to try to get an Amharic speaker to join us for the
lessons so that we will be able to help him understand. It will be great!

Wednesday... Today we went on a long trip to Waldorf. It was well
worth it because we had cafe rio for lunch! I had about 6 too many
Horchata's. It was so good! Thanks Kort! (Her Christmas gift to him was a Cafe Rio gift card) We checked on some people and
helped a lady that had broke down in her car. Her alternator was bad.
Then we got a text from Iesha! She has reappeared! We set up an apt
and met later in the week. We had three lessons at the Institute
building this week. It was nice! The members like us even more
hahahahaha! Little do they know...

Thursday... my first district meeting! It went super good! We learned
a lot, had great participation, felt the spirit, had fun, and got a
few questions answered while we were doing roll plays. I also
introduced something that our district will be tracking. The 11th key
indicator... How many times did you catch yourself being awesome this
week? It will be fun hearing the reports on this one. hahaha. We came
home and did weekly planning and did a nice deep clean of the house.
Our roommates are slobs and so we have to pick up after them. We got
the stuff to deep clean our carpets too.  Man our room does not smell
Disgusting anymore! SWEET! We had two dinner appointments tonight. It
was delish. Fattening but delish.

The main thing that I learned in
District Meeting is that the simple basic truths are the foundation to
everyones faith. If the people that you teach do not have a testimony
of one of them then they can crumble. We need to focus on simple
things like the Articles of Faith. (shout out to trace and cody) (They both were recognized last week for memorizing all 13 Articles of Faith)

Friday... We had another good day. This morning we met with a Recent
Convert named Stephon who we taught the responsibilities of holding
the priesthood. He is going to be ordained soon. It was awesome then
we on the way back home hit a concrete thing. so our car is not at its
peak. But it drives so life will go on. We then had a good meeting on
training. I saw my dad! It was fun to have a mini reunion. We had a
super cold night though. The wind and chill literally pierced your
soul and hurt. I will never live here on purpose after the mission!
The cold is bad and all people kept saying was that this is a mild
winter! WHAT!?!?

Saturday... Today I got the call from the AP's asking if they think we
could use more missionaries in our ward. That is something that we
have been wanting for a long time. It was fun to give them some info
and they are going to be meeting with Bishop Gish to figure it out.
Then we had a great lesson with Iesha at the VC again. She is still
super ready for everything and has such amazing faith. We are going to
continue to prepare her and get her ready for baptism. Not sure if it
will be te 15th or the 22nd. Then you cannot finish the day off any
better other than going to Olive Garden. YUM! It was a great lesson.  We ran
into the sister missionaries and were able to talk for a couple
minutes about their areas and the referrals they might be giving us.
We have great sisters here!

Sunday... I found out that Aaron Rogers won the MVP and that just made
my day! I love it! hahaha. We had a great day with 3 people at church.
It was awesome. Then we had all of our meetings and we were at the VC
with a few members at night. We watched the Testaments. They are so
good! I love that story. The ending is what gets me everytime when
Christ comes behind the son and the blind man and calls the dad by
name and he breaks down then is healed. I LOVE IT! I am so excited for
when we get to see our Savior again! It was just an amazing night.
Today... not too much planned. I am scheduling a White House tour and
shopping. So nothing too exciting.
Love you all!"
