Words from Elder & Sister Long in Oregon

"We have been on our mission just over two weeks now. It certainly seems much longer than that.

The first week was a very special time at the Provo Missionary Training Center. There were 104 of us senior missionaries that week. We were blessed with inspired teachers and training on how to share our love for the Savior Jesus Christ more effectively.

We especially appreciate the favorite scripture of one of our young returned missionary trainers, Sister Kelsey Baer. She said that she has used it frequently, both while on her mission and since. It is found in 2 Nephi 5:27 "And it came to pass that we lived after the manner of happiness. "

What a simple statement of what the Lord would have us all do - to "live after the manner of happiness"!

We arrived in our first missionary area, Eugene Oregon, on the day of the national championship game between the local Oregon Ducks and Ohio. The young missionaries assigned to the area, Elders O'Neil & Batt, helped us to get invited to members' homes to watch the game. So, during the game we were able to meet some members, including the bishop.  Sadly the Ducks lost, but the bishop said it was good that we were there talking about missionary work. It kept him from getting so wound up over the loss.

We love you and hope that you and your family are receiving many blessings. .......Please  remember to live after the  manner of happiness."
