Words from Elder Chandon Herring in Washington DC

"Well Hello!! How is everyone doing? Good, Good... I am doing great!
Thanks for asking! Well This was another eventful week here in the
greatest mission in the History of LIfe! We got our transfer calls on
saturday. Our district has three people leaving. Elder Hart is going
home, Elder Thornton and Humphrey are being moved. I feel really bad
for Humphrey, he has not been in any area
for more than 2 transfers. He is a super good missionary and is just
an incredible guy. I dont know why he is always being moved. He has
only been here for one transfer. But he is going to continue to
follow what President directs. He is a good example.

Ok this week was a little different and very interesting. We were
evacuated out of the City on the 11th because President was really
impressed to do so. Nothing happened other than a crazy dude charged
the White House. But we had a great 9 hour meeting and lecture on our
mission, bike safety (again) and played a couple games. It was really
fun though. We had a lot of appointments cancel this week. On one day
we went to meet with Richardo. We call and confirm. We get there, we
wait, he says ten minutes, we wait, he says he is on his way. we wait,
he says he is busy with something but will finish up soon, we wait,
about 1 1/2 hours later we reschedule. He is cheese. He has done this
a lot and we are going to drop him. And all the while we were waiting
it was pouring rain! Hurray! Hot wife points. ;) I also am getting a
lot more comfortable teaching on Facebook. It is weird at first but I
got like 8 or so lessons these past few weeks. It has been great! We
lifted every morning. my body is finally getting used to 4:30
mornings. It is good. I am getting stronger and more flexible. We were
pretty late on Thursday getting home from the gym in the morning
though. We were late for a good reason though. We helped this guy
change his tire as we passed him on the road. We tried to talk to him
about the gospel but i dont speak spanish. Neither does Elder
Thornton. So we just smiled and helped him out. I enjoy those chances
we get to serve.

We had a chance to see Sis Luna again this week. We are hopefully
going to get her to come to the Why I Believe on Sunday. That is an
event where someone cool/famous comes and talks about why they
believe. It is super cool. I have been asked to get Dennis Pita to
come. It is going well so far and yes i did ask Sis Gissel first to
see if I should ask. He might be doing the one in November.

We went to
Sis Onyeka as well but could not teach her this week. She was applying
for a job online and it was going to take a while. She could not pause
of it would cancel it. So we told her we are praying for her and God
loves her and left. She is doing better now that her daughter is with
her again. We now see lights on in the house and she is looking for a
job again! Hurray for motivation!

When we visited with Sister Bonner (Who finally came to church
again!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and Karen we had a good laugh. They are these two
old silly black ladies who sit on their porch all day everyday and it
is great. Karen has these fake nails that are literally 2-3 inches
long. It is so weird but she loves them. We also had a chance to see
Sister Galloway. She is the sweetest lady you will ever meet. We dont
know why she is inactive. She used to be the Relief Society President
and then went inactive. Thornton and i have had the most success out
of everyone in getting her to come to church. She NEVER came but these
past 12 weeks she has come like 5 times! She is so cool too! When we
got home Thornton had a meltdown of craziness. Just a little
background first. He loves smells. Ok He burned a million sticky notes
because it looked cool and then lit a candle, then sprayed some smell
stuff then took a shower in the middle of our room with baby powder.
all in about a 45 second period. It was so bizarre but crazy funny! (18 yr old Elders...SCARY!)

All in all it was a pretty solid week. This coming will be full of
change and super fun. I will finally get to sleep in!!!!!! All the way
to 6:00ish. (Didn't he just say he was getting used to the early mornings...haha!) Man I am so excited. But I might miss going to the gym.

I read from Mosiah this week. King Benjamin and Abinadi are so cool! I forgot
how inspiring King Ben's words were. (Wow, pretty chummy with ol King Ben) I challenge all of you to read it
and evaluate yourself. It is incredible.

How is the General Conference
prep going?
It is incredible listening to living prophets teach us on what the
will of The Lord is for us. I know they are sent of God and inspired
men. I love them! I love you all as well. The Church is SOOOOOO
True!!!!!!! It is great!!!!!!! The Temple is the best place on
Earth!!!!! Go EVERY DAY if you can! I love this gospel and the work I
have been able to do! It is so fun and fulfilling. I am excited to
continue."
